The topic of skin care has always fascinated men and women alike, because good skin means a well groomed personality and killer looks (and it does not hurt when people talk about your dapper looks in hush hush tones!) and therefore ‘glowing skin’ has always remained a favorite topic for conversation in kitty parties, page -3 parties and even during light moments in board room meetings.
At the same time, the problem with skin care is that there is too much of information and even well read people may get confused as to what to hit and what to miss for maintaining youthful looks. The skin care aisles in a hip store seem to jostle for place and one just wonders how many layers of chemicals is required for maintaining beautiful skin. It is with this objective in mind, that we want to share with you some key skin care tips, which when followed on regular basis, will not leave space for any confusion and will give you your effervescent looks.
Best Tips To Take Care Of Skins
1. Avoid Product Over Load
The first skin care tip, which does not find its due place in articles but which is a crucial aspect in maintaining good skin is minimal use of skin care products. The bottom-line is that even the most expensive products, advertised by most suave models are also made by chemicals and lots of chemicals are not good for your health as well as beauty. Product overload on your face and skin can make it more dry, sensitive and irritable. Instead of using lots of products, take notice of your skin’s essential needs like acne or wrinkles or blemishes and choose products accordingly while focusing on basic skin care regimen on regular basis.
2. Do Not Wash Face With Dirty Hands
Always make sure to wash your hands first with soap and water and then touch your face. Sometimes, while washing our face with dirty hand, quite ironically, we pass on infection to our face. Washing hand thoroughly with soap and water ensures a clean and infection free face. If you like to use washcloth on your face or skin, then use a clean and dry washcloth every time, to avoid bacteria buildup.
3. Cleanse Your Skin Daily
Cleansing skin on daily basis is a must for maintaining youthful and beautiful skin. Choose a cleanser or face wash as per your skin type. Always go for gentle and mild cleansers. Sometimes, we misunderstand the needs of oily skin and use harsh cleansers which leave skin dry and tight. Tight and dry skin does not mean clean skin; it rather indicates that your skin has been stripped of essential layer of oil and moisturizers.
4. Tone And Moisturize Twice A Day
Cleansing should be followed by toning and moisturizing on daily basis, irrespective of skin type. Toning helps in various ways. A good toner helps in restoring moisturizing levels of your skin, helps in shrinking skin pores and detoxifies skin. Regular use of toner ensures pore-less skin. Non users of toner, usually face the problem of large and open pores as a dominant and visible sign of aging.
Toning your skin gives it instantly a refreshing feel and look. Always use toners without alcohol base. The toners with alcohol base tend to dry up your skin and make it wrinkle prone and therefore it is very important to use toner on your face immediately after cleansing skin. Toners must be followed by moisturizers to restore the moisture levels of the skin. Use a moisturizer as per your skin type. If you have dry skin go for emollient based moisturizer and if yopu have oily skin, go for oil free moisturizer. Use them regularly for plump and supple skin.
5. Use Sunscreen Regularly
Regular use of sunscreen can help your skin stay young, healthy and glowing for life time as the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of sun causes damage to the skin which includes pigmentation, sun burn, wrinkles and even cancer. Use a sunscreen with at least 15 SPF. Also, applying sunscreen once in a day is not enough. One needs to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day, every two hours.
For your face, a teaspoon of sunscreen is enough while for your entire body, a couple of tablespoons will be sufficient. Also, apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before stepping out of the home. You can choose a sunscreen as per your skin type. For oily skin, choose mattyfying formula and for dry skin extra emollient formula will be a wise choice. If you are going for vacation on hills or beaches then apply a sunscreen of higher SPF regularly throughout the day. It is important because the sun rays are more harmful on cloudy days as well as in water bodies.
6. Be Gentle With Your Skin
It is very important to treat our skin gently if we want to keep it soft, young and glowing. Hot showers for long periods of time, vigorous use of towel after taking a shower, using strong soaps, and carelessly shaving face can all have a bad effect cumulatively over a long period of time. A few changes in our habits can go a long way in preserving youthful look of the skin.
Always use warm water for your baths and keep your duration short, pat dry from your towel rather than rubbing vigorously, use a sharp razor for shaving your face and apply a good quality shaving cream for the shave. When going outdoors under the blazing sun, wear a hat to create a protective cover around your face and gently massage your face when applying creams and lotions. Vigorous massages can do more harm than good to your skin.
Eat a well balanced diet because eating a healthy diet may not have a direct bearing on your face but it can make or mar your chances of looking great. Always eat a healthy and nutritious diet comprising of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and low fat dairy products. Researchers have suggested that eating vitamin C rich foods on daily basis can lead to younger looking skin. Eating healthy foods actually leads you to feel and look at your best.
