Hair fall may occur due to aging, nutritional deficiency, hormonal imbalance, pollution, stress, heredity, scalp infections, dandruff, etc. Hair fall if left unchecked may lead to balding. If the hair fall cannot be controlled, it is better to consult with a doctor in order to identify the root cause and take appropriate steps. There are some simple home remedies that can be followed to prevent hair fall.

Natural Remedies To Combat Hair Fall:

Coconut Oil:

Coconut Oil

Apply lukewarm coconut oil to the scalp and massage for 15 minutes. Leave it on for some time and wash your hair. Massaging improves blood circulation and helps hair follicles absorb the nutrients present in the oil. Coconut oil is rich in Vitamins E, K and iron and helps in hair growth. When applied regularly to the hair, coconut oil protects hair against pollution and impurities. Coconut oil also has antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Onion Juice:

Onion Juice

Onion is rich in Sulfur that helps in hair growth. Cut onion into small pieces and squeeze out the juice. Apply it on scalp and leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes and then wash it off. Sulfur improves blood circulation in the scalp and also promotes collagen production, which helps in hair growth. The antibacterial properties of Onion also prevent scalp infections. You may mix some rose water to onion juice if the pungent smell is not to your liking.

Indian Gooseberry:

Indian gooseberry or amla is rich in Vitamin C and is an excellent remedy for hair fall. Make a paste by crushing amla and mixing with lemon juice. Apply on the scalp and wash it off once it dries. Alternatively, boil dried amla pieces or amla powder with coconut oil for 5 minutes on low flame. Keep stirring. All the nutrients in amla will have been extracted into the coconut oil. Filter the oil. Allow the oil to cool and store it in a jar for everyday use.



Yogurt or curd is an excellent remedy for hair problems and is a natural conditioner. Mix curd with gram flour and use it in place of shampoo for washing your hair. You can also make a hair pack by mixing curd with ground fenugreek. Apply the paste on scalp and wash it off after some time.

Eggs are rich in Proteins, Vitamins and Minerals. Hair is composed of 70% keratin protein. The proteins in eggs make the hair strong and prevents hair fall. Take egg white and olive oil in a bowl and beat it until you get a paste. Apply it on scalp and hair. Wash it off after 15 to 20 minutes. Having an egg everyday also helps in preventing hair fall that is caused due to nutritional deficiency.
