Coconut oil has a number of wonderful uses. But did you know that it can be used as a deodorant? If you want to replace the chemical laden deodorants with a natural product, coconut oil is an excellent option. Body odor is caused by foul smelling compounds produced by bacteria that feed on sweat. Because of its antibacterial property, coconut oil inhibits bacterial overgrowth. Moreover, coconut oil keeps the skin moisturized. This natural deodorant is even safe for the sensitive skin.
Here Are Some Of The Best Ways Of Using Coconut Oil As Deodorant:
1. Basic Coconut Oil Deodorant:
The simplest way to use coconut oil as a deodorant is to apply it directly to the armpits. Take a teaspoon of solidified coconut oil and evenly spread it to the underarm area. The heat of the armpits will melt the coconut oil. To avoid oil stains on your clothing, allow the coconut oil to fully absorb into the underarm skin before dressing.
2. Coconut Oil And Grapefruit:
Grapefruit extract is known for its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It adds a fresh smell to the coconut oil based deodorant. To make the deodorant you will need three tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 ½ tablespoons of ground arrowroot, three tablespoons of baking powder and forty drops of grapefruit extract. Mix all the ingredients until you get a smooth paste. Refrigerate the mixture for 20 to 30 minutes. Take a small amount of the mixture and apply it to the underarms.
3. Coconut Oil And Lavender Oil:
Because of its floral fragrance, lavender essential oil is added to homemade deodorants. Furthermore, lavender soothes the skin and reduces irritation. It is also known for its antibacterial property. For your homemade deodorant recipe, you will need a cup of coconut oil, one ounce shea butter, ½ ounce beeswax, one tablespoon vitamin E oil and 40 drops lavender essential oil. Use a double boiler to melt and mix the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool down. Add the vitamin E oil and lavender essential oil and mix well. Apply a small amount of the mixture to the underarms.
