A mouth ulcer is caused due to erosion of the delicate tissue that lines the inside of the mouth or mucous membrane. They can also appear on the tongue, the lips or the gums. The first sign of the ulcer may be a burning sensation inside the mouth. They either occur singly or in clusters and are usually white or yellow in colour.
