Skin care begins with cleaning the skin. From the standard soaps to cleansing creams, there are all sorts of products for cleaning the skin. However, not many of us are aware of the benefits of oil cleansing. Although the idea of slathering your face with oil to remove impurities may sound crazy, with appropriate use, oil cleansing helps in reducing the excess oiliness of the skin, opens the skin pores and protects your skin from breakouts. When you massage your face and body with oil, the oil particles bind with the impurities and remove them from the skin without clogging the pores. Moreover, the cleansing method moisturizes and nourishes your skin and helps in maintaining the natural pH and oil balance of your skin that are usually disrupted while cleaning with soap.
Here Are Ways To Rejuvenate Your Skin Using Oil Cleansing
Select The Oils For Cleansing
To clean your skin with oil, first select the oil blend that best suits your skin type. The oil blend is a mixture of conditioning oil and astringent oil. Conditioning oil moisturizes and nourishes the skin. Coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, avocado oil and almond oil are common examples of conditioning oil. Astringent oil easily penetrates the skin, cleans and shrinks the pores and makes the skin dry. Castor oil, grapeseed oil, hazelnut oil and borage oil are examples of astringent oil.
Blend The Oil
To clean the oily skin, blend one part of astringent oil with 3 parts of conditioning oil. For combination skin the ratio of astringent oil to conditioning oil will be 1:4. If you have dry skin, mix one part of astringent oil with 10 parts of conditioning oil.
Add Essential Oil
For additional benefit, add few drops of tea tree oil, citrus oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil or any other essential oil of your choice to the oil blend. The healing property of the essential oil helps in soothing the skin and treating breakouts. However, this step is optional.
Take ½ a teaspoon of oil and spread it on your face. With your finger tips rub your face in small circles for 1 to 2 minutes. Focus primarily on the troubled areas with clogged pores. Dip a clean washcloth in hot water and wring out to remove the excess water. Cover your face with the warm washcloth. Place a small towel on the washcloth to trap the steam. After the washcloth cools, again repeat the process. Wipe your face with a clean towel. Your skin will become soft and radiant. Use oil cleansing three to four times a week for best result.
